ITALIAN CREAM CAKE 
1 stick butter
1 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 c. coconut
1 tsp. vanilla
5 eggs, separated

Combine soda and buttermilk, cream butter, Crisco, and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time, add buttermilk, alternating with flour. Add vanilla, then fold in stiffly beaten egg whites, nuts, and coconut.

ITALIAN CREAM FROSTING:

1 (8 oz.) Philadelphia cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
