1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. sugar (granulated) 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. butter, unsalted and chilled 1 egg, separated 1/2 c. sliced unblanched almonds Line a 13x9x2 pan with foil and grease foil. In medium bowl mix flour, 1/4 cup sugar, the cinnamon and butter with finger tips until crumbly. Mix in egg yolk until evenly blended. Press firmly into pan. Brush with slightly beaten egg white. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup sugar and the almonds pressing them into the dough. Bake in 350 degree oven 18 to 20 minutes or lightly browned. Cool slightly. Lift foil by ends onto cutting boards. Cut into 1 1/2 inch squares. Cool completely. Store in tight tin. (I let cool some in the pan and then slice them with a sharp knife carefully.) Very good. |
