RED VELVET CAKE | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs 3 tbsp. cocoa 2 oz. red food coloring 2 1/2 c. cake flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. vinegar 1 tsp. baking soda Cream shortening in large bowl. Add sugar, beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beating well. Combine cocoa and food coloring, sift flour and salt, add dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, add vanilla. Beat well, combine vinegar and soda, fold in batter. Turn into 2 greased and floured 9-inch layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. |
