HOMEMADE VANILLA FROSTING (FROM SCRATCH)
1 cup milk 3 tbsp. all-purpose flour 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened 1/2 cup shortening (I use Crisco) 1 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla Cook first 2 ingredients till thick, let cool completely. Add the next 4 ingredients and beat with hand mixer till creamy (usually takes a good 10 minutes). This frosting is not too sweet. Delicious on chocolate and yellow cake! This frosting took me about 8 minutes with my hand mixer to get perfectly fluffy. Easy enough for me to wean myself off store-bought frostings!
