ELIZABETH'S BROWN SUGAR POUND
CAKE
 
1 box light brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. Crisco
5 eggs
3 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. evaporated milk
1/4 c. water
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped (optional)

Cream butter, Crisco and sugars. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix baking powder with flour, add alternately with milk and water. Add vanilla, stir in nuts. Bake in tube pan at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done.

FROSTING (optional) :

1/4 c. butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 to 6 tbsp. evaporated milk

Cream butter. Add sugar, vanilla, and milk. Toast 1 cup pecans in 1/4 cup butter in 350 degree oven until brown. Mix with frosting.
