BEEF AND BROCCOLI 
1/2 lb. beef round steak, cut in 1" cubes
1 sm. clove garlic, minced
2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cooking oil
2-4 tbsp. rice beer (sake), sherry or gin
2 tbsp. soy sauce
1 1/2 lbs. broccoli, cut in bite size pieces
3/4 c. water
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 c. cold water
3 c. hot rice

Cook rice according to package directions. In a wok or skillet stir fry beef, garlic, sugar and salt in hot oil. Stir in sake and soy; cook, covered 2 or 3 minutes. Remove meat and set aside. Add broccoli and the 3/4 cup water to the pan. Bring to a boil; reduce heat; stir, then continue cooking, covered, 2 to 5 minutes more. Add meat. Combine cornstarch and the 1/2 cup water. Pour into center of meat. Cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes more until thickened and bubbly. Serve over cooked rice. Makes 4 servings.
