GRANDMA'S MOLASSES COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening or butter, softened
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg, unbeaten
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Blend first 4 ingredients until creamy. Sift together flour, soda and spices. Add molasses to shortening mixture. Stir flour mixture into shortening mixture. Drop by teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes for soft cookies and 10 to 12 minutes for crispy cookies. Cool and store tightly covered. Yield: 3 to 4 dozen.
