GERMAN GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses (Grandmas, unsulphured)
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger

Cream shortening and sugar; add egg and molasses; beat until fluffy. Sift all dry ingredients and add to mixture. Chill. Roll into marble size balls and roll each in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool before removing from pan.

To make a pretty Christmas cookies: Omit rolling in sugar. Spread with glaze of powdered sugar and water. Sprinkle with colored candies. Makes 60-48 cookies.

I would have give this recipe a 5 star rating but the person who posted this failed to mention you need to flatten these cookies. I put the balls in the oven waiting for them to flatten and half way thru, I took them out and flattened them with the bottom of a glass. Otherwise, tasty - esp with tea.
