MAMMIE'S MOLASSES COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses (Brer Rabbit light)
1 c. shortening (1/2 butter - 1/2 Crisco)
1 c. sour milk
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
About 5 1/2 c. flour

Mix all ingredients with enough flour to form balls. Refrigerate until chilled well. Usually overnight. Roll dough into balls. Place on greased sheets. Use bottom of jar to dip into flour and push on dough balls to flatten slightly before baking. Oven at 400 degrees until cookies are golden.

ICING:

Blend together powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. Spread cooled cookies with icing.
