OLD-FASHIONED LEMON SAUCE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
1 egg, well beaten
3 tbsp. lemon juice

Combine in saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, just until mixture comes to a boil. Pour over slices of plain cake.

Combine all ingredients except the egg (only use egg yolk), when sauce begins to thicken, add a little of the sauce to the beaten egg yolk, then pour egg mixture back into the sauce. Cook til desired thickness.
