BEAN CASSEROLE | |
1 (32 oz.) can pork and beans or baked beans 2 (16 oz.) cans kidney beans 1 (16 oz.) can lima beans 2 (16 oz.) can butter beans 1 med. onion, chopped 1 lb. bacon 1 1/2 lb. hamburger 1 c. catsup 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 tsp. dry mustard 2 tbsp. vinegar Reduce by 1/4 to 1/3 cup if you use baked beans that already have brown sugar added to them. Do not drain beans. Fry and dice the bacon. Drain grease. Fry onion and hamburger. Drain grease. Mix together all ingredients. Add spices as desired. (I usually just add pepper to taste. The bacon provides enough salt.) Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until thoroughly heated. Makes 5 quarts that serves approximately 25 people. It can be frozen. |
