FIG PRESERVE CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. butter or cooking oil
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. fig preserves
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tbsp. vanilla

Sift dry ingredients together. Add oil or butter and beat. Add eggs. Then add buttermilk gradually. Add other ingredients. Bake in long flat cake pan about 1 hour at 325 degrees. While cake is hot, pour sauce over it.

SAUCE:

1 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 tbsp. corn syrup
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Boil 3 minutes.
