MOLASSES SHOO-FLY PIE 
1 (9 inch) pastry shell
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg yolk, well beaten
1/2 tbsp. baking soda, dissolved in
3/4 c. boiling water

Combine the above liquids, set aside.

CRUMBS:

3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. shortening
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt

Combine dry ingredients, working in the shortening to make a crumbly mixture. Into prepared pie shell place alternate layers of crumbs and liquid, topping with crumbs. Bake at 450 degrees until crust edges start to brown. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake until filling is firm (about 20 minutes).
