CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE 
2 squares Baker's chocolate
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 c. boiling water
2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. sour milk or 1 tbsp. vinegar added to milk (let stand so it curdles)
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Put the chocolate squares in a large bowl and then add the butter, boiling water and let stand and melt and then mix well after ingredients melt. Add eggs and sugar, beating after each. Then add flour, which has the salt and baking powder added to it. Mix well.

Then after mixing well, add the sour cream (a little at a time) and vanilla. Continue to mix well. Pour into greased pans and bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

FUDGE FROSTING:

1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
7 tbsp. milk
2 squares Baker's chocolate
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp. Karo light or dark syrup
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla

Put sugar, milk, chocolate, salt, syrup, butter, Crisco (good size helpings of butter and Crisco) and vanilla into saucepan. Let come to a full boil, stirring constantly for a full minute. After it has started to boil, let stand for a few minutes to cool some and then beat until it starts to thicken. For spreading consistency, it gets thick rather fast when it starts. Don't let stick in pan.
