GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
Granulated sugar

Cream together shortening, brown sugar, molasses and egg; set aside.

Sift together remaining ingredients; add to mixture. Mix well. Roll dough into small balls, about 3/4 inches. Roll in granulated sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake 8-9 minutes at 375 degrees.

Note: These are soft cookies, if they bake up crisp, reduce baking time 1 to 2 minutes.
