MEAT LOAF - HUNT STYLE
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef 1 egg, beaten 1 c. fresh bread crumbs 1 med. size onion, chopped 1 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 1/2 can Hunts tomato sauce Lightly mix ingredients and form a loaf. Place in shallow pan in moderate oven 350 degrees. While it's starting to bake combine following to make your prize winning tart-sweet gravy. 2 tbsp. vinegar 2 tbsp. mustard 1 c. water 2 tbsp. brown sugar or molasses Pour over meat loaf in oven continue baking 1 1/2 hours longer, basting occasionally.

This is original Hunts meat loaf recipe from about 1955, that my mother made and I still make. I like because it is simple and quick and does not by adding garlic or other herbs. The Paula Dean recipe for Hunts meatloaf is a much later version.
