CHOCOLATE SUNDAE COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 unbeaten egg
2 squares melted unsweetened chocolate
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. walnuts (optional)
1/4 c. chopped maraschino cherries
18 marshmallows

Can substitute 3 rounded tablespoons cocoa moistened with a little water.

Sift flour, soda, and salt together. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugar well. Blend in egg. Stir in half the dry ingredients and spices. Add 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice, 2 tablespoons milk, then stir in rest of the dry ingredients. Blend in melted chocolate, walnuts, maraschino cherries.

Drop rounded teaspoons of dough on ungreased sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut marshmallows in half, place cut side down on cookie. Frost with Chocolate Frosting. Makes 36.
