Chocolate Cake Mix Brownies

OK, I played around with this recipe a little more. Again I doubled the recipe but used butter instead of oil, brewed coffee instead of water, and I added about a tbsp of cocoa and a tbsp of mayo. They came out much tastier this time. The butter really adds flavor and makes them chewier; like a true brownie.

A great recipe for a pinch when you need to make brownies but have chocolate cake mix. Added chocolate chips. They were not as chewie as regular brownies, but were nice and soft and held together better than regular cake.

I liked them! I used a box of Duncan Hines devil's cake mix and they were really got. Not as chewy, but I think that's because I added a bit more water to them.

yummy! I added slightly more water. After they baked I sprinkled powdered sugar on top and spread a peanut butter mixture (PB milk and powdered sugar) over and let completely cool. Then I added a layer of chocolate pudding followed by whipped coconut cream to top it off. Super rich and so good!

Well I just tried these yummys.. Used red velvet with dark chocolate chips. Didn't let them cool... Cut first piece for the taster in my house, he had 2 more before bed.. I loved them too. I do want to add this to my comment, follow the recipe for size of pan - it's the key, add a little water if too thick and pull then from your oven as soon as you can, 20 minutes is great. The longer you bake the dry sets in, last thank you for sharing.. Awesome for a snack on a snowy day. Don't forgot the cocoa!

Really wasn't impressed with these brownies. I followed the recipe however I also added a fourth a cup of peanut butter and about a half a cup of pecans.they were kind of bland and desperately needed salt, not sure i I would'nt use this recipe again I prefer my brownies kind of gooey on the inside and these seem to be more cake like.

I agree... use left over coffee from breakfast instead of water... Definitely brings out more intense chocolate flavor!! I don't put water in anything that calls for it.. I always find a flavorful substitute. Butter is definitely better than oil... way better... Also add chocolate syrup.. and sour cream for moisture. Yum...

I altered the recipe: half cup water, half cup oil, add some Hershey syrup and use two eggs, used devil foods cake mix. Once it was baked to perfection I added some caramel syrup on top. Let's just say yummy!! Just like a brownie, not cake like at all.

Replace oil with 1/2 cup very very soft butter. -Melted OK-
Add 2 oz of your favorite chocolate (I have used bakers unsweetened, cocoa powder, cocoa mix packages (single serving) Hershey's Kisses, Nestle's Crunch and 100,000 Bar...it makes the brownie more substantial and helps to increase the quality of the total product. If you REALLY want to experiment, pulverize Mounds or Almond Joy in a food processor with a little corn starch added. Toss the result (1/3 to 1/2 cup) on the brownies before you bake them.

Just popped the 8x12 brownie pan in the oven. I changed the the water to cream and added two eggs. Then 1 cup of chopped walnuts and 1 cup chocolate chips. This was still a thick batter. Hope they turn out. I'm a Tour Guide and always take goodies for my guests each trip. They smell wonderful baking.
