1 tsp. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. (level) shortening
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1/2 c. milk

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Sift together sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut shortening into the dry ingredients; add milk and yeast mixture. Mix well. Place on floured surface; roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Place 1 biscuit on top of another, with a pat of butter between; seal edges. Let rise 1 hour. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees until done and brown.

If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
