STREUSEL-FILLED COFFEE CAKE 
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

STREUSEL:

1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 c. chopped nuts or 1/2 to 3/4 c. oats

Mix sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Stir in milk. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Spread half of batter in greased and floured 9-inch square pan.

STREUSEL: Mix ingredients well. Sprinkle batter with half of streusel mixture. Add remaining batter; sprinkle the rest of streusel over top. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
