1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. thick sweetened apple sauce
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/4 c. sour milk
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and applesauce. Beat thoroughly. Sift flour; measure and sift with baking soda, salt, and spices. Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Beat thoroughly. Pour into well oiled loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) about 45 minutes.
