1/3 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 c. thick strained apple sauce
2/3 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped figs or raisins
2 c. flour
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking soda (in flour)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix and bake at 350 degrees for one hour in Angel Food cake pan.

FROSTING:

4 tbsp. brown sugar
4 tbsp. butter
4 tbsp. cream
2 c. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Nuts, optional

Boil first three ingredients until mixture bubbles and then cool to spread. Add remaining ingredients.
