KAVRING 
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening

Sift dry ingredients together, then cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles course crumbs. Add buttermilk all at once and stir just until dough follows fork around bowl. Pat dough out on floured board, slightly thinner than for biscuits. Cut with floured biscuit cutter. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned, about 12 minutes. Split hot biscuits with sharp knife, place on cookie sheets, dry out in very slow 250 degree oven to brown, watching carefully. Butter to serve.
