ROCKS (SOFT, NOT HARD) 
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. lard
1/2 c. boiling water with tsp. baking soda (heaping) dissolved in it
1 egg
3 to 3 1/2 c. flour
2/3 c. walnut meats
1/2 c. raisins (sm. like currants)

Melt butter and lard. Mix in order given. Drop from spoon on buttered tins. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
