1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (1 c.)
1/2 c. broken nuts

Cream shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir into creamed mixture, blend well. Add chocolate and nuts.

Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 375 degrees 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from sheet immediately. Makes 3 dozen.
