1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. broken nuts

Cream shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture; blend well. Add chocolate and nuts. Drop from teaspoons 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from sheet immediately. Makes 3 dozen.
