FIG CAKE 
2 c. all purpose flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. oil
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped fig preserves
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, salt, soda and spices. Add oil, beat well, then add eggs, milk, nuts and vanilla. Mix well. Add figs last, mixing with spatula. Bake in tube pan for one hour at 325 degrees.

SAUCE TOPPING:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. white corn syrup
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Mix ingredients and boil 3 minutes. Pierce cake with meat fork making holes over entire area. Pour sauce over cake while it is still warm.
