SPICEY HAMBURGER SOUP 
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 lg. onion, chopped
4 lg. potatoes, cubed
4 carrots, sliced
1/2 head cabbage, shredded
4 c. tomatoes
1/2 bay leaf
1/4 tsp. thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 c. rice

Saute ground beef and onion in small amount of fat in Dutch oven; drain. Add 4 cups water, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, bay leaf, thyme, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil; add rice. Reduce heat; cover. Simmer for 2 hours. Add water as needed during first 30 minutes.
