CHOCOLATE CHERRY BROWNIES 
16 oz. jar maraschino cherries
2/3 c. butter
6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 beaten eggs
1 1/4 c. flour
3/4 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. shortening

Reserve 12 cherries and chop remainder. In saucepan, melt butter and 1/2 cup chocolate chips over low heat until melted. Cool and add sugar, vanilla and eggs. Stir in combined dry ingredients, chopped cherries and nuts. Spread into greased 9"x13" pan and bake about 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool completely. Halve remaining cherries and place on top of brownies. In saucepan on low heat, melt remaining chocolate chips and shortening. Drizzle over brownies and cut into squares. Makes 2 dozen.
