FRENCH BREAKFAST PUFFS OR
DOUGHNUT MUFFINS
 
1/3 c. melted shortening
1 c. sugar
1 beaten egg
1/2 c. milk
6 tbsp. melted butter
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix 1/2 cup of the sugar with shortening and egg. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fill 12 greased muffin pans 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon. Dip warm muffins in melted butter and then in sugar mixture until coated.
