ENGLISH TRIFLE ALA SYLVIA STERN 
1 Duncan Hines lemon cake mix or lady fingers
1 lb. pkg. frozen strawberries
3 bananas, cut lengthwise in strips
Raspberry or strawberry jam
1 pt. custard, use your own favorite custard recipe
1/2 c. red sweet wine
8 oz. Cool Whip
1/2 c. blanched almonds

Bake cake in 2 pans according to box directions. Cool. Cut cake in 1 inch strips, coat with jam and place in bowl. Spoon defrosted berries and wine over cake. Place banana strips on top. Make custard and pour over mix and allow to cool. Cover with Cool Whip and sprinkle with almonds. Decorate to suit your own idea. Serve in a fancy glass bowl.
