MARY'S SUGAR COOKIES
1/4 lb. butter (1 stick), softened
1/2 c. Wesson oil
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg (beaten)

1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar (optional)
2 c. flour

Cream butter, oil, sugar, add rest of ingredients add flour last, chill dough. Take small amounts of dough, roll in hand, about the size of a walnut. Roll in extra granulated sugar. Put on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press down with a fork. Bake 15 to 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven. (In my stove I find about 12 minutes is about right.) If the dough is getting to soft in the bowl, chill some more. If the dough gets to soft the cookies will spread to much and run together.

You don't need a mixer. A wooden spoon will do. This recipe can be doubled, tripled or more. This depends on the number of people you are preparing for. I made some for one hundred people and did use a mixer with a dough hook.
