SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE 
4 c. water
1/2 c. milk vinegar (rice vinegar is very good)
2 sm. onion, sliced thin
1/2 c. raisins
1 lemon, sliced paper thin
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. allspice
Cayenne, salt, ginger
2 bay leaves
1 c. gingersnaps, rolled fine

Beef broth may be used instead of water, for added flavor. Simmer all ingredients together until lemon and onions are tender. Add gingersnaps and stir until smooth and slightly thickened. Very good with chicken or ham.
