SOUR SOUP 
1 lg. onion, chopped
5 med. sweet potatoes, diced
2 to 3 slices of pumpkin with skin
1 tbsp. vegetable shortening
1 tbsp. olive oil
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 c. dried red beans
2 tbsp. vinegar
Water for soaking beans
2 qt. water for soup
Salt & pepper to taste

Soak the dried beans for 12 hours in water to which the vinegar has been added. Discard the water. Place beans in a pot together with the onion, garlic, water and vegetable shortening. Bring to a boil and simmer until beans are almost tender. Add the olive oil, the pumpkin and the sweet potatoes and continue to simmer until these are tender. Remove and peel the pumpkin, chop it and return it to soup. Reheat and season to taste. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
