GROUND TURKEY GOULASH
12 oz. cooked ground turkey (1 lb. raw)
4 c. canned tomatoes, finely chopped
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
1 tbsp. instant minced onion
1 (4 oz.) can mushroom pieces with liquid (optional)
2 packets beef or chicken bouillon
3 oz. elbow macaroni, uncooked
Salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder to taste

Place cooked ground turkey (or 1 pound uncooked and browned) in a nonstick skillet with seasonings. Add tomatoes, green pepper, onion, mushrooms with liquid and bouillon; bring to a boil. Add macaroni (do not stir in) and continue to boil, uncovered, until macaroni absorbs all of the liquid and is tender, about 20 minutes.

Ground Turkey Goulash

 MN (United States) says:
This is NOT goulash (Gulyas). True goulash does not contain macaroni. True goulash is a stew using cubed beef or pork, and lots of Hungarian paprika. It should resemble a thick soup, not Hamburger Helper.

MN - do not criticize someone's recipe. If you do not like the recipe then you don't have to make it. How rude!

Being from Cincinnati (where there is a strong German background), my mother would make a very similar recipe to this and yes, she called it goulash. This may not be the True Goulash that MN speaks of, but it is the Cincinnati version that I enjoy.

I agree with Nicole, being from Michigan, this is very similar to what I grew up eating!

this is what I grew up with and you are right Nicole, never say anything about other's recipes, they are what we want and I love this one, thank you for saying that, God bless!

MN - Noodles aside, I would choose Spanish paprika over Hungarian, it is more palatable and not as spicy, frankly it tastes better IMO.

This sounds like a goulash I've been used to for over 40 years. Like anything else, everyone has their own way of cooking different foods. So put your own twist to it and I'm sure it will be great.

I grew up eating something very similar to this. My Dad made it different every time he cooked it, which I always appreciated.

 LOL! says:
Traditional goulash is an Hungarian dish which uses paprika as MN stated. However, I would never tell people what they call their dish is incorrect... American versions added hamburger & macaroni and removed most of the spice.

This might not be goulash but my mom fixed a dish with macaroni ground beef onion and tomato juice and we called it goulash whatever the name it is good.

Pretty good Goulash. And there is no such thing as a "true" recipe for any dish.

 DJones (Virginia) replies:
I agree with MMarkert99... everyone has a twist on most every recipe... just make it your own and BE HAPPY!!! I'm from Indiana and we called it goulash and it will stay that way! Love Cooks.com because of what everyone has shared.

This recipe is amazing!! I made it for 3 very picky kids and they all scarfed it down and asked for seconds. I had to make a couple of modifications just because I didn't have exact ingredients and I didn't want to go to the store, but very tasty!! Thank you!!

I was born and raised in Minnesota and this is pretty much what everyone in the northern part of the state calls goulash (with some twist or another). I thought it was good, first time I made it with ground turkey rather than beef.

I would agree it's rude (and not very Minnesotan) to be critical of a twist on an ethnic dish. Most Italians would not call what we eat Pizza that doesn't mean it should be attacked.

I agree w/most of you. I grew up in MN and when my dad made goulash this is what it was. When I look for goulash recipes, this is what I am looking for!

I'm afraid I'm on the side calling this Goulash. My Mother's recipe was very similar except she also added some cooked kidney beans. Ain't variety great!

This may not be authentic Hungarian (which my husband is) Goulash, it caught my attention and sounds delish. So this is what I'm fixing tonight for dinner. Thanks to whomever shared this recipe! :)

 Phyllis (Virginia) says:
Good grief! - this entire thing has became individual reviews on whether or NOT this is goulash. Who cares? Either fix it - change it up your way... or skip it. Turkey being a bland meat - does take on flavors of ingredients added to it. Just make it your own version...
