SOFT OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES 
1 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. quick oats

Simmer raisins and water. Cool. Drain liquid into cup. Add water to make 1/2 cup liquid.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, raisin liquid, flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon cloves, oats, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, and raisins. Mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Serves 36.
