OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING 
1 loaf day old bread
Butter
3 eggs, beaten
1 qt. milk
2 c. sugar or less
1 stick butter
Dash of salt
1 to 2 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. nutmeg

Grease 9x13 inch baking dish. Break enough bread slices into crumbs to fill dish to top. Mix together beaten eggs, milk, sugar, 1 stick butter, salt and food coloring in saucepan and scald over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove and add vanilla and nutmeg. Pour over bread crumbs. Let soak for 5 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve with Vanilla Sauce.

VANILLA SAUCE:

2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
Dash of nutmeg

Make a paste of flour and melted butter in small saucepan. Gradually add milk, vanilla and nutmeg. Stir and cook until thickened. Serve warm.
