OVEN BEEF STEW | |
2 tbsp. flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 lb. chuck roast, cut 1" cubes 2 tbsp. shortening 2 c. tomato soup 1 1/2 c. chopped onion 1/2 tsp. basil 4 potatoes, cubed 4 carrots, cubed 1/2 c. dry wine or water Coat meat cubes with flour, salt and dash pepper. Brown in hot shortening in oven (Dutch). Add soup, 2 1/2 cups water, onion and basil. Cover and bake at 375 degrees about 1 hour. Add potatoes, carrots and wine. Cover and bake 1 hour longer or until tender. |
