GREAT GRANDMA'S PICKLED BEETS 
Beets
Sugar
Water
Vinegar
Cinnamon
Cloves
Allspice

Cook beets until tender. Cool thoroughly. Slip the skins of beets off. Meanwhile prepare your pickling syrup: 2 cups sugar, 2 cups water, 2 cups vinegar, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon cloves and 1 teaspoon allspice. Let this mixture simmer 15 minutes.

Fill jars with beets either sliced or whole (small beets are best). Pour pickling syrup over beets. Hot. Prepare to seal jars 10-15 minutes following USDA instructions for pickles.
