FRUIT/OATMEAL BARS 
3/4 c. butter, softened (not melted)
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1/4 c. wheat germ or 1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. dry oatmeal
1/2 can cherry or blueberry pie filling, or drained crushed pineapple

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Cream butter and sugar; add flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix using a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in oatmeal.

Press half of mixture into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Spread fruit evenly over bottom layer. Spread remaining crumb mixture over the fruit layer. Smooth.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until top is golden.
