GRANDMA H'S FROSTED SUGAR COOKIES | |
COOKIES: 1 cup shortening (Grandma used Crisco) 1 cup sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 cup milk Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream together shortening and sugar. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and mix until flour disappears. Flour board or countertop and shape dough in ball. Roll out and use cookie cutters to make shapes. Bake at 350°F for 12 minutes (or until cookies start turning light brown). Remove from oven and leave on cookie sheets 5 minutes or more. You can use Grandma H's Frosting (see below) to put on them or eat them plain. Makes 3 dozen. GRANDMA H'S FROSTING: 3 cups confectioners' sugar 1/4 to 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco) 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. butter flavoring 1/4 tsp. almond flavoring hot water (adjust as needed) In a mixing bowl add first 5 ingredients together. Add hot water, a little at a time, until desired consistency. Stir until very creamy. Note: If too thin, add additional confectioners' sugar. If too thick, add water.
