TAFFY PULL | |
2 c. sugar 4 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. vanilla or mint extract 2/3 c. water 2 tsp. cream of tartar This was a tradition at Christmas time in pioneer days. The children usually would "pull" the taffy. Mix sugar, water, butter and tartar in saucepan. Place over low heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Increase heat (do not stir) until a firm ball can be made by dropping a dab into cold water. Remove from heat and add extract. Pour into greased pan. Let cool before children or guests begin to pull it. Keep stretching until you have long pieces about 1 inch thick. Lay on waxed paper until hard. Cut into bite-sized pieces. |
