MARY'S COFFEE CAKE
This is an easy from scratch recipe my mother made back in the '70s. She would use walnuts. I have always enjoyed it.

CAKE BATTER:

3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, softened
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

FILLING MIX:

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Mix thoroughly sugar, butter and egg; add milk and stir. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add these dry ingredients to first mixture; mix well.

Mix ingredients for filling until crumbly. Grease and flour a 10x6 or 8x8-inch baking pan. Put half batter in; over this sprinkle half filling mixture. Spread other half batter on top and sprinkle rest of filling mixture over top.

Bake at 375°F for 25 to 35 minutes or until cake tests done.
