FRENCH APPLE COBBLER 
5 c. apples, peeled and sliced
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. butter, softened
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten

To make filling, combine apples, 3/4 c. sugar, 2 Tbsp. flour, cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. salt, vanilla, and 1/2 c. water in a medium bowl. Put in a 9 inch x 9 inch baking pan. Dot with butter.

In a medium bowl, combine 1/2 c. flour, 1/2 c. sugar, baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, 2 Tbsp. butter and egg. Beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Drop batter in portions on apples, spacing evenly. Batter will spread during baking.

Bake 35 - 40 minutes in 375°F oven. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.

Serves 6 - 8.
