CRUNCHY BROWNIE BARS 
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. melted butter
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. uncooked quick oats

BROWNIE LAYER:

1 c. melted butter
2 c. sugar
5 tbsp. cocoa (heaping)
1 1/2 c. flour
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For Crunchy Layer combine flour, soda and salt. Stir in oats and brown sugar. Add the 1 cup melted butter and pat into bottom of 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Will not be completely baked.

While bottom is in the oven, mix the brownies. After the 10 minutes, spread brownie mixture over Crunchy Layer. Return to oven and bake 50 minutes.

FROSTING:

2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
4 tbsp. butter
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. confectioners' sugar
3 to 4 tbsp. hot water

Prepare frosting when brownies are cool. Melt together chocolate and 4 tablespoons butter. Remove from heat, immediately add confectioners' sugar, vanilla and hot water (enough to make soft pourable consistency). Beat until smooth. Spread over brownies while frosting is still hot. Frosting will set firm as it cools.
