OLD FASHIONED BATTER BREAD | |
2 to 2 1/2 c. flour 3/4 c. rolled oats 1 tsp. salt 1 pkg. yeast (use part of 1 c. water to dissolve yeast) 1 c. water 1/4 c. molasses 1/4 c. butter 1 egg Water to dissolve Grease 8 x 4 inch bread pan. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, oats, salt, and yeast. Blend well. In small pan heat water, molasses, and butter until very warm. Add warm liquid and egg to flour mixture. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Stir in additional flour to form a stiff batter. Cover with cloth and let rise in warm place until double in size, about 30 minutes. Stir batter down, and place in bread pan. Cover, and let rise again, about 40 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. |
