BANANA BREAD 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 2/3 c. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. solid shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk
2 eggs (well beaten)
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3-4 over-ripe bananas (mashed)

Grease and flour 2 bread pans. Combine dry ingredients and mix well. Add remaining ingredients and blend with electric mixer until smooth.

Pour batter into pans until half full. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees or until toothpick comes out clean. Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack.
