FRUIT LOAF (Banana Bread) 
2/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. soft shortening
2 eggs
3 tbsp. sour or buttermilk
1 c. fruit (mashed banana, grated apple, etc.)
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts (if desired)

Mix thoroughly sugar, shortening and eggs. Stir in milk and fruit. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to sugar mixture. Add nuts. Pour into well greased 9x5x3 loaf pan. Let stand 20 minutes. Bake 350 degrees, 50-60 minutes or until tests done.
