Combine in saucepan:

2 c. water
2 c. diced raw apples or applesauce
3/4 c. shortening
2 c. raisins
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Cook above ingredients for 3 minutes after it starts to boil. Remove from heat and let stand until cool. Then add 3 cups sifted flour, 2 teaspoons soda an 1 cup nuts (chopped). Bake for 1 hour in slow oven (350 degrees). Add candied fruit for fruit cake.
