BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
6 qts. med.-size cucumbers
8 sm. onions, sliced
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar (apple cider)
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. whole cloves
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tbsp. celery seed

Wash cucumbers. Slice thin. Slice onions, sprinkle with 1/2 cup salt. Mix thoroughly and allow to stand for 3 hours.

Combine sugar, spices and vinegar and heat to boiling. Add cucumber mixture. Reheat just to boiling, but do not boil or cucumbers will be soft. Pack into hot clean jars. Seal. Wait 6 weeks before eating.
